This step we’ll be installing Wordpress as your web page template.

Refer to your email from HostGator for your access code and your cPanel link; it will look like ‘yourdomain.com/cpanel’. Get logged in. You’ll see a page of icons and lists of stuff. Go way down to the bottom of the icons and find the smiley face that reads ‘Fantastico De Luxe’ and give it a click.

On the Fantastico page look in the list for ‘Wordpress” and give it a click, this will bring up a Wordpress page. In the Wordpress block, look for ‘New Installation’ and click it.

Choose a Relative Domain Name

So head over to Godaddy.com and play around with some different names and look at the suggestions they make for ideas particularly if your choice is taken. When considering your domain name it may not always be possible to get the exact name of your business. If exact is available make sure it’s a .com, don’t choose anything else. The reason is that people will usually type in .com out of familiarity and your business will go there first.

Free Blogs vs Own Your Blog

When considering a blog you may think doing a free blog will save you money and you’d be right. Except for just a few things that fall under the category of you get what you pay for.

First, a free blog doesn’t belong to you, you just write it. The blog belongs to the provider and as such it stays up at their discretion. They have a funny way of disappearing sometimes and you may never know why.
